U.S.–UAE 'Gold Standard' agreement
The Bush administration first signed a Section 123 agreement with the UAE in January 2009; the Obama administration renegotiated the text and finalized the revised version on May 21, 2009, under which Abu Dhabi voluntarily forswears domestic uranium enrichment and plutonium reprocessing — setting the so-called 'gold standard' for nonproliferation terms. The agreement entered into force on December 17, 2009.
