Annual Landslide Fatalities — China, 2015–2024
Deaths

Annual fatalities have trended downward since the 2016 peak of 428 deaths — a partial success attributed to expanded monitoring and early evacuation protocols. Yet single catastrophic events can erase years of improvement: the 2024 Gansu landslide alone killed 148 people, accounting for roughly 75% of that year's total toll. Small-township gaps in early-warning coverage remain the primary vulnerability.
