This tab previously charted Karakoram glacier mass loss and Pakistani climbing-permit volume. Both series were withdrawn in an editorial fact-check: the annual figures could not be verified against NASA GRACE/GRACE-FO data or any published permit record, and the region is documented to show near-neutral or positive mass balance in some periods — the “Karakoram Anomaly” — which the withdrawn series did not reflect. Rather than leave a chart standing over data we could not stand behind, it is removed until primary sources are in hand.
The U.S. Embassy Islamabad has opened a consular case for the missing American national. Under the Vienna Convention on Consular Relations, Pakistan is obligated to notify U.S. consular officers when an American citizen is confirmed missing or in distress. The U.S. government does not directly fund or operate overseas mountain rescues but can apply diplomatic pressure and coordinate with international mountaineering organizations.
